Custom and personalized products are popular on Etsy, with both “custom” and “personalized gift” consistently ranking among the top 100 Etsy searches each month. Shoppers love to get and give gifts made especially for them for a number of occasions including Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, and weddings.
If you have Print-on Demand (POD) listings through Printify that require special touches such as names, photos, or other information from the buyer, it’s important to understand how this process works. Taking the time to learn how to properly fulfill these orders will keep your customers happy and give them a seamless shopping experience.
How to Turn on Personalization
While this method also works for new listings, Printify allows Etsy sellers to add personalization to existing listings, so you don’t have to start from scratch! To add personalization to your current listings, open up your Printify catalog and click on the three dots to the right of the listing that you want to edit. Click “Set personalization” and a pop-up window appears with a toggle to turn personalization on.

Edit Your Product to Include the Personalization Field
Once personalization is on for a listing, you need to edit the product to include the area a buyer is able to personalize. Click the “Edit design” button to open the Printify editor. On the left-hand side, you’ll see a “Personalization” button. After clicking that, a side menu pops up with the options available for this item. Choose the type of feature (text, photo, etc.) and add it to the mock-up for your product.

💡 Please note that Etsy does not allow thumbnails with mock-ups to have placeholder text such as “Your Name Here.” It must feature a completed item such as one the customer will receive. To learn more about Etsy’s Listing Image rules, read their Listing Image Requirements policy.
Sync Your Item With Etsy
After making the necessary changes to your listing, publish that item to your Etsy shop via your “My Products” page on Printify. If you do not sync these changes via Printify, they will not be active in your Etsy shop.

💡 Any edits made to your listings via the Etsy platform will NOT automatically sync to Printify. Aspects of your listing that are relevant to Printify such as shipping, designs, or personalization parameters MUST be made within the Printify platform.
