Hiya, Australians! Hope you’re up to your eyebrows in orders! We’ll try to be as quick as we can this month. Especially since an exceptional number of your Top 250 searches show exceptional purchase intent. So we need to allow extra time for those.

We usually start by discussing your Top 20 climbers – shopper searches that weren’t in your previous Top 20. Typically, these would be the hottest of your most popular products on Etsy. But this month, November’s are mostly the same old faces, reclaiming their accustomed places. Because your October Top 20 had broken all records. Nineteen were climbers, eight of them screamers that hadn’t managed to crack the Top 1000 just the month before.

Month to month, Etsy Top 20 turnover typically averages nine to 12 keywords. For November, your list is back to normal. Ten climbers and half as many screamers as last month. And of those four, only two are truly new.

Ranked 13th: “gifts for friends,” screamer

The US had this same screamer this month. We think it’s likely traceable to an Etsy promo. Which isn’t to imply that it isn’t popular! (After all, Etsy has ALL the data.)

When calculated for the month, your “gifts for friends” has a monthly click-through rate of 131%. Now, for Etsy a CTR of 100% indicates buyers are highly engaged, clicking multiple listings in search result pages. So, 131% tells us Australian shoppers clicked through an exceptional number of listings Etsy showed them for this keyword.

Whatever you do though, don’t be tempted to change your SEO now! As with all single-month spikes like this, best practice is to add it to a Keyword List first. See whether it develops. Besides, it takes a month or more for Etsy’s search algorithm to digest SEO changes. (And always keep eRank’s Golden Rule in mind: Never change the SEO of listings that are selling well!)

Ranked 19th: “handmade items,” screamer

Now, this screamer is an Etsy Australia exclusive. But “handmade items” didn’t scream into your Top 20 completely out of nowhere. The Search Trends line chart above shows it’s had a couple months with search volume. In the Keyword Stats chart we see that fewer than 2,000 Australian seller listings use it.

Its Avg. CTR is also encouraging: it’s higher than average. And when calculated for November? “Handmade items” has a monthly CTR of 149%! That is an absolute ton of purchase intent!

Tip: top Etsy searches and purchase intent

For those of you who are new to selling online, this will be a useful tip.

On ecommerce sites, click-through rates (CTRs) reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are an indicator of ‘purchase intent.’ These are people more likely searching with the intention to buy, as opposed to those just browsing.

So yes, it’s smart to keep up with the top Etsy searches. But for insight into what’s selling best on Etsy, look to their click-through rates. It’s why we end these trend reports with a Monthly CTR Roundup. You’ll learn which of your current top 250 keywords have had the highest CTRs most recently. First though, here’s a list of all ten of your November climbers.

7th: “wall art,” up from #56

8th: “womens clothing,” up from #33

9th: “personalised gift,” up from #282

11th: “necklace,” up from #473

18th: “gifts for him,” screamer

19th: “handmade items,” screamer

20th: “digital prints,” up from #258

See what we mean? Apart from the two we’ve already discussed, the rest are either seasonal or Top 20 regulars. So, given how precious your time must be, let’s jump straight to your bumper crop of high CTRs.

Roundup! Australia’s top Etsy keywords with 125%+ CTRs now

Here for ideas of what to sell on Etsy? This is your insider access to which of this month’s Top 250 Etsy searches show the most purchase intent. Keep in mind, these calculations are based exclusively on our most recent full month of data. So, regardless of their 12-mo CTRs, lots of these products are what’s selling best on Etsy Australia now. As for any Christmas-related searches, add them to a Keyword List. That way, you’ll be a step ahead for next year.

Ranking #1-50

Your highest-ranked keyword with a qualifying CTR is this one.

#2 “gifts for her” – November CTR: 150%

Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “gifts for her.” Right, its 15-mo search performance. The gold badge indicates it has continued to trend through the first week of December.

“Gifts for her” and “gifts for him” were once Top 20 constants, year round and year in, year out. Now, they are only seasonal, and those seasons keep getting shorter. But “gifts for her” is making the most of her time on high. 150% is as high as these CTRs get.

There are 11 other CTR qualifiers in November’s Top 20, every one a high flyer. The next three are all Top 20 regulars: stickersearringsbracelet. The following four are November climbers pokemonwomens clothingnecklace and gifts for friends. Then three more of your regulars, desk mattote bagkeycaps. The twelfth is newcomer handmade items.

Moving on to the rest of the Top 50, from #21-23 there’s a trio, all high flyers: giftsphone charmphone case. Skip two and there’s another trio: pet portraitwedding invitationsrings.

Next there are eight qualifiers in a row! From #30: stardew valleybaby showeradvent calendargiftitalian charm braceletpress on nails3d printedjewellery box. Then at #39-40 there’s a pair: dnd dice and birthday card. The final five here are: mugsmugsabrina carpenteranimetaylor swift.

Ranked from #51-100

Remarkably, all the qualifiers in this section up to #85 have November CTRs of 140%+. The first of these are one pieceweddingbaby shower games and apron. Since Canada’s Roundup featured two apron searches, we took a peek at yours. Have a look.

#58 “apron” – November CTR: 148%

Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “apron.” Right, its 15-mo search performance. This one’s got the gold badge, too; it’s still trending high in search this week.

We see opportunity here! Its Avg. CTR is above average; Competition from your fellow Aussie sellers is low. And a related search, “personalised apron,” currently ranks #147 with a monthly CTR of 146%! Looking for ideas of what to sell on Etsy? In a niche that isn’t over-saturated? Act fast; we hear aprons are trending!

Meanwhile, back to the Roundup and this run of high CTRs. Next up: adhd plannerchristmas giftschristmas shirtcandlejewellery giftschessgilmore girls. Then at #67-70, there’s a quartet: incense holderdispatchdnd, and headphone holder cool. Skip just one and there’s a quintet: mens clothingwalletwinter stylewall decorriftbound.

At #78 is world of warcraft, followed by the last of this run of high CTRs. The six: personalisedspidermanavatarcustom keycapsbackpack and bag. Then canva breaks the spell; it has 127%; still well above average. The last qualifiers in this Top 100: bookhaikyuuminecraft and social media templates.

Next, ranked from #101-150

The first qualifier here is singleton #107 carabiner. Then none until #128, where we find five with 146%+. These are custom dog shirtcurtains, christmas pngmoroccan rug and fourth wing. “Gifts for mum” has less, but plenty to qualify.

Then we’re back in that 146%+ slipstream: linen dressdigital plannerchristmas t shirtshome decor and fidget ring. Since we’ve been seeing a general rise in all things fidgety, we decided to check that last one. We’re glad we did!

#139 “fidget ring” – November CTR: 149%

Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “fidget ring.” Right, its 15-mo search performance. And it’s still trending high in search this week.

Etsy cynics say that a jewelry item in high demand with low competition is a fable these days. Well then, here’s a unicorn. Six of the past 12 months had searches above 1,000/mo. A fantastic 12-mo Avg. CTR. Yet Competition is so low it barely registers!

Returning to the Roundup, the next qualifier is #140 reading journal. Then a streak of 140%+ CTRs: wall printsnursery printsnotion templateorthodox cross necklacepearl necklace. It continues through the final four in this set: personalised apronminimushroom and nails.

Ranked from #151-200

That run of 140%+ CTRs continues! There’s pop artphoto keyringpinkpokemon etbworkplannerworkplanner best sellerwool blanket. The rest: xray markerstrinket trayultrakill tshirtsunisex heavy blendtm hooded sweatshirt and stocking fillers.

The streak ends with #165 soap. Then there’s snoopystar warswall sculpturewhite gold earrings and watchroll [sic]. At #173 is what if it all works out, followed by vivienne westwoodwei wuxianwinding watch case. At #180 is stream schedule; skip one and there’s a trio: tate mcraeprint on demandprint.

These next qualifiers all have 1,550 searches so they’re in alpha order. And these also all have 140%+ CTRs for the month! Catholicchristmas dogchristmas svgchainsaw manchristianchopping board holder, and custom rug. We’ve been seeing more and more custom rugs in online craft communities. Is there some type of new tech that makes these easier to make? Seeing that “custom rug” made your Roundup, we got curious.

#192 “custom rug” – November CTR: 146%

Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “custom rug.” Right, its 15-mo search performance.
Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “custom rug.” Right, its 15-mo search performance.

Interesting! There’s opportunity here. Especially if our impression is correct that custom rugs are still new to some consumers. Because these appear to be selling well Down Under! Remember, a 120% CTR, especially for a 12-mo average, indicates well above average purchase intent. Yet Competition for “custom rug” is so low, it barely registers.

Have we identified another unicorn? If you’re looking for what to sell on Etsy in a niche you could make your own, here’s another lead.

Back on the Roundup, there are six more qualifiers in the Top 200. Custom makeup bagdigital backdrops for family photoshootcustom hoodiecvdigital product, and baby tee.

Finally, ranking #201-250

Straight out of the gate you have a pair of high flyers: bird house and body pillow. Body pillows are another product we data geeks have noticed making a lot of our US lists. Let’s have a look.

#203 “body pillow” – November CTR: 146%

Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “body pillow.” Right, its 15-mo search performance.
Left, Etsy AU keyword stats for “body pillow.” Right, its 15-mo search performance.

Huh. Guess body pillows haven’t caught on as broadly in Australia as they have in the US. The US has nearly 70% of the global shopper pie; the UK has 9%; you guys have just 2.7%. But the purchase intent is there on Etsy Australia! And this is by far the lowest Competition stat yet.

Those of you looking for a new niche, add this to a Keyword List. See if these start to catch on with Australian shoppers; maybe you can catch that wave!

And now, back once more to the Roundup. Next up, a trio of high flyers: chrome heartschubby cat amigurumicoaster. Skip ahead and there are five: arcaneangel kiss bagart commissionbabyartisan keycap. Then from #217 on, you have 11 in a row, all with 1,550 searches for November. The first six: fleshy propsfaux beamsformula 1farmhousekindle case, leadlight. The rest: kingdom hearts, lanyard, lighter, laptop cover sticker and laptop cover sticker birds.

At #229 is linen. Skip one and you have a quintet of qualifiers. Japan okinawa traveljournal stickersjournal charmsjibbitz, and engraved watch box. Skip one again and you have a trio: dollgraphic tee and greatsword. At #240-241 there’s a pair: handmade chess sets and hetalia.

Then from #244-248, there’s another quintet and all these have 146%+ CTRs. Handbagshoodiesmagnetsmatching keychainsmichael jackson. And the last for this month’s Roundup is #250 love spell; it has 146% as well.

We hope some of these prove to be profitable leads for you. And that meanwhile, what you’ve got is selling like hotcakes!
