As an Etsy seller, you are familiar with the holiday rush that occurs at the end of each year. However, the holiday designs for your Etsy shop do not have to end with the New Year’s countdown. The first quarter of 2024 brings a fresh batch of holidays as well as a fresh opportunity for Etsy sellers to thrive.

If you sell worldwide, watch for holidays in other countries and not just your home country. Sometimes, the same holiday is celebrated in multiple countries but on different dates, meaning that one design can be used multiple times during a year.

In this article, holidays for the following countries are covered: United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Canada (CAN), Australia (AUS), New Zealand (NZ), and France (FR). If no country is indicated, that means that it is a worldwide celebration in many countries.

January 2024

This year, it is probably too late for Etsy sellers to take advantage of any holidays in January. However, keep these in mind for next year. January holidays other than New Year’s are often overlooked by Etsy sellers and therefore, do not have as much competition on the marketplace and less offerings for those shoppers that enjoy showing their holiday spirit for every holiday.

  • January 15th (US): Martin Luther King Day
  • January 25th (AUS, UK): Arbor Day
  • January 25th: Opposite Day
  • January 26th (AUS): Australia Day

February 2024

To take advantage of February’s holidays this year, now is definitely the time to get started…and fast! In addition, this February offers a “holiday” that is only available once every four years—Leap Day! This occasional day offers a great opportunity for some creative merchandise for Etsy sellers, especially for items targeted towards those that were born on this unique day.

  • February (US, CAN): Black History Month
  • February 2nd (US, CAN): Groundhog Day
  • February 6th (NZ): Waitangi Day
  • February 10th: Lunar (Chinese) New Year
  • February 13th: Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)
  • February 14th: Valentine’s Day
  • February 19th (US): President’s Day
  • February 29th: Leap Day

March 2024

With Easter coming early this year, it means March is packed full of some great holidays for merchandise to sell in your Etsy shop. Also, be sure to take note that the UK celebrates Mother’s Day in March. This is one of those holidays celebrated in different countries at different times of the year, meaning you can create once and market and sell multiple times throughout the year. Grandparent’s Day, celebrated in March in France, is also another great example.

  • March 3rd (FR): Grandparents’ Day
  • March 10th (UK): Mother’s Day
  • March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day
  • March 19th/20th: Spring Equinox (depending on your location)
  • March 21st (AUS): Harmony Day
  • March 31st: Easter Sunday

Other Events

In addition to the standard holidays, it is a good idea to be aware of other major events occurring that could be used for merchandise such as the Super Bowl (in February) and the Oscars (in March). However, be careful about merchandise for these events and avoid using any trademarked wording, names, or images.

The first quarter also brings the start of the spring bridal season. Keep in mind Pantone’s color of the year, Peach Fuzz, as well as popular flowers for this year, which can be discovered by checking eRank’s Trend Buzz and Monthly Trend reports.

Keep in Mind

The first quarter of 2024 offers Etsy sellers a wealth of opportunities to thrive. From Valentine’s Day to the broader spirit of spring, there are countless ways to engage shoppers and boost sales. If these holidays do not work for your merchandise, they use them in your marketing to drive shoppers to your shop by being a part of the holiday buzz on social media.

By tailoring your products and marketing strategies to these holidays and themes, you can make the most of this often-overlooked season and ensure a successful start to the year. Embrace the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that define Etsy and let your shop shine during these festive months. Happy selling!
