G’day, Australia! As always, we’ll start with your climbers: Top 20 keywords not on last month’s Top 20 list. Because these are the searches climbing highest the fastest most recently. In September you had 15 climbers, which was a mad high rate of turnover, even for Etsy! Lots more shoppers searching for lots more stuff they weren’t as much just the month before.
In October, you’re down to 13 climbers. That’s only a couple more than our other countries had this month. But you also have more screamers: four. (The US had one; the UK and Canada none.) So-called because they scream into the Top 20 seemingly out of nowhere; these failed to crack September’s Top 1000. Which means they not only climbed highest the fastest most recently; rank-wise, they also covered the most ground.
Back in September, you had three screamers. For fun (hey, we’re data geeks), we took a quick look to see how those three fared in October. The first two still rank in your Top 1000. But the third does not.
Screamer update! Sapphire ranked 15th back in September
Now, sapphire is September’s birthstone. So it was no surprise to see it make your Top 20. We’ve mentioned before that Australians appear to search Etsy for gifts more than US, UK or Canadian shoppers.
So the only surprise was that a year ago in September, sapphire only had 50 searches. September to September, “sapphire” was up a staggering 9000%! We did see it was up a year ago in August; people shopping ahead for September birthdays? Even so, comparing August 2023 to September 2024, this year it still was up by 194%. And now?
Sapphire’s crashed back down. So far down that it doesn’t even register. In case you haven’t seen a Search Trend result like this one (above right), we’ll explain. When there are zero searches for the most recent month, you see this. Not even a line crashing down; just a popup with the date and a tiny hyphen beside “AUS.”
But then, sapphire also had zero searches back in January, April and May. And had other months with just 50. The four upswings on the search-history chart coincide with gifting. September birthdays; Christmas; Valentine’s Day. So, no worries: your sapphire shoppers will be back.
Now let’s get to your October climbers and screamers.

Way too many to discuss each one! We know you’re busy. And we want to leave time at the end for another “High-CTR Roundup” like we did for you last month. (For anyone who’s new, we’ll explain more about that in a bit.) Meanwhile, let’s do just the screamers and climbers that leapfrogged the most in rank.
Well, except for the first one; we’ll be leapfrogging ourselves, right over Ms. Swift. We doubt anyone on Etsy is licensed to use her name. Which brings us to your second screamer.
Ranking 8th: advent calendar
We just checked. The US, UK, and Canada do have “advent calendar” in their October Top 1000s. But the highest in rank is the UK’s at #38.
Last November, “advent calendar” climbed to 15,700. And this October it’s up 158% Year on Year. However, while all bars on the Keyword Stats chart are green, that 89% Average CTR is lackluster.
So we took a quick peek at its Keyword Ideas table. And we spotted some promising leads if you niche down.
Quick tutorial: niching down, click-through rates, and purchase intent
Are you new to Etsy or eRank?
“Niche down” is industry jargon. It refers to the process of identifying keywords (or products!) you can rank for high enough in search for yours to be found.
Niching down can help new sellers or new products compete with listings that have established sales histories. And it can also help when you see an otherwise-promising keyword that has a problematic stat. Like high competition. Or a low CTR (click-through rate).
On shopping sites, click-through rates reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are one indicator of purchase intent. That is, a shopper who’s more likely searching with the intention to purchase (as opposed to one just browsing).
Demo: how to use Keyword Tool to niche down
So we’ve just looked at the keyword stats for “advent calendar.” An Average CTR of 89% isn’t terrible. But Etsy has more keywords with high CTRs than any other marketplace. Could there be a related keyword that signals better purchase intent?
We scrolled down to advent calendar’s Keyword Ideas table. Then, for Keyword Match, we left it on the Default setting; instead, we clicked “Include Keywords” and entered “advent.” Doing this gives us all searches having that word. Then we sorted the results by the Search Trend column (circled below in orange). This will show us which are trending highest now.
The top search is advent calendar. Then the next six are one-month spikes, spiking now. For example, ranked second is “golf advent calendar” with 550 Australian shopper searches in October.
And if you look at the Average CTR column, farthest right? Ranking fourth and fifth, there are two with Average CTRs of 132%! Even for Etsy, those are sky high. They are “advent calendar sewing pattern” and “christmas vacation advent calendar.” Both had 300 searches this past month.
As with any single-month spike, best practice is adding them to a Keyword List; see how they perform. While you’re at it, add “investigation advent calendar” too. We had a google; that one seems to be a brand-new trend in the advent calendar space.
And now let’s get back to our regularly-scheduled programming! Just keep in mind that this “niching down” procedure is versatile. Use it for product research; to spot new trends; or to find ways to compete and win! Even with this next climber, which has tons of competition.
Ranking 9th: necklace, up from #462
The surprise here was seeing that “necklace” dropped so low back in September. Hasn’t this one been a frequent flyer on your Top 20 lists? Let’s see what we can see.
Whoa! With so much turnover in your Top 20 lists, it can be easy to miss what isn’t there. Like “necklace,” apparently.
Yes, it’s got eRank’s Trend Alert banner telling us it’s also been popular this week. And Month on Month it’s up. But Year on Year, “necklace” is down 85%: from 34,650 searches in October 2023 to its current 5,250. And it’s got a lower Average CTR than we like: 78%. When calculated just for October, it’s even lower: 73%. Alarming. (But pendant necklaces is one of your screamers; maybe that one will be better.)
Ranking 10th: enamel pin, up from #354
These were a top trend everywhere a few years ago.
And enamel pins never really go away – they’ve been around for hundreds of years! But they do appear to be waxing again in popularity. Currently they’re at a 15-mo high for you Down Under. And what a lovely Keyword Stats chart: all green, with surprisingly low competition from your fellow Aussie sellers! Only 6,501 Australian listings are using this keyword. The Average CTR is 109%: lovely, indeed.
Ranking 12th: pendant necklaces
We list keywords in the form that shoppers entered them in search. In other words, we report singular and plural forms separately. Given that this one ranks so high, we expected to also see its singular form somewhere in your Top 1000. Nope. But then, this one didn’t make last month’s either. It’s a screamer. And often, those are flukes. Is this?
Hmm. No Trend Alert banner. On the other hand, quite a nice Average CTR: 118%. But then again, Competition is in the red: nearly 53,000 Australian Etsy listings use this keyword.
When you ask Google whether pendant necklaces are trending, its top results say yes.
But we deal in data. Check out that Search Trend history. Too many months with abysmal search volume: 12 out of 15. If you’re looking for what necklaces to sell on Etsy, you could do better. At least hold off a month, see where this keyword goes from here.
Ranking 13th: gothic
We noticed “gothic” on the rise when doing our monthly review of the keywords populating the Monthly Trends tool. And as a one-word search, “gothic” ranked 27th on the US Top 1000 for October. Let’s see what it looks like for you.
Nice! Next, we checked the UK and Canada. “Gothic” is spiking to a 15-mo high in all four countries! How about that. Could it just be Halloween? But it didn’t happen last Halloween though.
Your stat for Average CTR is 73%; on the meh side. But we decided to take a quick look at your Keyword Ideas table for “gothic.”
Gothic’s trending searches
Sorted to show what’s been trending most recently, look what we found.
The following three gothic-related searches all have 550 searches for October and an Average CTR of 137%!
- gothic silver choker
- gothic candles
- gothic leather suspenders
The fourth, “gothic choker” also has 550 searches and a still-laudable 119% Average CTR. We’re pretty sure the following one, “gothic maid dress” might have been for Halloween (or not, lol). It got just 250 searches in October. But it’s another with an above-average CTR of 114%. And wow: all five of these have amazingly low competition!
For us, seeing all four countries have “gothic” spiking is exciting. And for all of them, gothic’s at a 15-mo high. As data geeks, we’re dead chuffed. But!
These five related searches of yours are all single-month spikes. Therefore, we feel duty-bound to remind you: if you’re not already in this niche, hold off. Add these to a Keyword List. Watch them awhile first to see which way “gothic” and all things goth go. That said though, if you are in this niche already, congrats! We hope it’s the resurgence of a lasting wave.

Roundup! Australia’s top Etsy keywords with 125%+ CTRs now
As mentioned, of the top online marketplaces we cover, Etsy has the most keywords with high CTRs. But even on Etsy, CTRs above 125% are rare! Note too, these calculations are based on just their October search volume and clicks. Which means that regardless of what their 12-mo CTRs may be, these keywords should be hot now. We hope some prove to be profitable leads for you!
One last thing before we begin. Some of these shopper searches could cause an Etsy seller problems. Whether they be protected by intellectual property rights or possibly prohibited by Etsy, please look before you leap!
Ranking 1-50
To keep this as clean as possible, we’ll only shout out CTRs of 145% and above. And in your Top 20 alone, there are three! But first, there is #7 gift for women (which “only” has 142%). Then the rest have 149% CTRs: crochet; pokemon; keycaps.
Finishing out the rest of your Top 50, ranked 21st is personalized trick or treat bags, also with a CTR of 149%. Skip a bunch then at #32-35, a quartet with CTRs of 148+%: keycap, junk journal, desk mat, fursuit. Skip one, then handmade jewelry with a 148% CTR. Skip another and there’s #39 digital planner. Skip one and next is italian charm bracelet with 148%. Skip one and then a second quartet, #43-46 tote bag, dog, laptop, jewelry. All but jewelry have 148% CTRs. And finally, #48 chappell roan with 147% and #50 magnet with 148%.
Ranking 51-100
At #53-54 is a pair: titanic, and spiderman pj pants; that one has a 147% CTR. Then not another qualifies until #78 christmas gifts. Skip one, then at #80-82 a trio: tapestry (146%), therian mask, and 21st birthday gift for her, which has 147%. Skip another, then at #84-87 a quartet, all with 146+% CTRs! Women watches dainty, windspinner png, y2k hoodie, alien stage. Skip one more and there’s another with a 146% CTR: 15oz mug wraps.
All the rest have CTRs above 145%: #91 taylor swift lover; #95 sublimation mug wrap. And the quintet at #97-101: sewing pattern, fursuit premade, fursuit paws, fursuit head, and girlfriend gift at #101.
Ranked 102-150
After “girlfriend gift” in that last group, next is a pair: #106-107 christianbundles (one word) sublimation, and pregnancy planner, both above 145%. Skipping ahead, at #112-113 there’s another pair with 145+% CTRs: watches, walking stick. Skip two more and then you have ten in a row, all 146% or higher! Digital art, embroidery designs, emerald ring, engraved ring, enamel pin red panda, locs, miffy, marine biology, mens polyester tee aop, and mockups.
Skip two and then ranking #129-133 are five with CTRs above 145%: custom name necklace, custom name necklac e [sic], curse sweatshirt, custom body pillow, and handmade soap. Then, scattered from #137 to #143 are these five with 146+% CTRs: babydoll top pattern. A pair at #139-140: board game tokens, aurora poster. Skip one then another pair: astarion, stardew valley. After those is a trio ranking #147-149: lamp, japan, transgender; the latter two have 146% CTRs.
Ranked 151-200
This section begins with a singleton, #152 metalocalypse; and a pair at #158-159: tintin poster, table lamp. All three of those have 146% CTRs: Then ranking #163-166 a quartet: geode, silver earrings, faith over fear sublimation, pc accessories. The latter three all have CTRs above 145%.
Next, ranking #169, a singleton: japandi lamp. It has a 146% CTR. And then a trio at #172-174: rectangular planters box, pin, and beaded bracelets. The first two of that trio have 146% CTRs. Next, a couple more singletons, both with 146% CTRs: #179 portrait; and #181 taylor swift prayer candle.
At #183-184 a pair with CTRs above 145%: medication tracker, makeup bag. Then at #186-188 a trio with 146%: cricut stickers, yooperlite, buttons. Next, a couple singletons: #190 indian (with 146%) and #192 formula 1. And October’s Top 200 ends with a trio ranking #196-198; the first two have 146% CTRs: islam clothes, knitted sweater, and embroidered sweatshirt.
Ranked 201-250
These seven all have October CTRs above 145%. First a pair: #202-203 norn emissary, wolverine mask. Then three singletons: #207 plant pot; #209 phone cases; #219 formd t1. And another pair at #222-223: miniatures, minimalist.
Another two singletons are at #226 slim aarons and at #229 crystal. Then the next four all have 145% CTRs: cosy knitwear; #234 timothee chalamet; #237 sublimation sizing chart; and #242 live moss. There’s a pair at #244-245: lipgloss, leopard bag. And finally, ranked #248 with a current CTR of 145%: christian.
