Hiya gang; Happy New Year! Hope you got some rest. Had a chance to switch all your giftable items to target Valentine’s Day shoppers yet? Because there are already five Valentine-related searches in December’s Top 1000. And 52 searches with the word “gift,” including your No. 1 search, “gift.”

Weirdly, in November “gift” didn’t even make your Top 1000. “Gifts” plural ranked down at #924! Hardly matters though, given that no mere mortal is going to rank on Etsy for either. Still, it is unusual to see both ranking so low in November. Let’s take a quick look at how “gift” is doing now.

No. 1: “gift” (not in November’s Top 1000)

On the left, Etsy keyword stats for the Canadian shopper search “gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance with Canada’s Etsy shoppers over the past 15 months. It has eRank’s golden badge indicating that it is also popular this week.

Look at that: “gift” is continuing to trend as we speak, well into the second week of January. So let’s go see what else has shot into your Top 20.

Canada’s top Etsy searches climbing highest fastest

You have 15 climbers to report, same as last month. Well above average for Top 20 turnover. And of these, five are what we fondly call “screamers.” Because they seem to scream to the top out of nowhere, having failed to crack the previous month’s Top 1000. Five screamers is a lot. For comparison, a year ago in December you had nine climbers, three of which were screamers.

Ranked 1st: “gift,” screamer

2nd: “wall art,” up from #106

5th: “personalised gift,” screamer (but the plural ranked 10th)

7th: “last minute gifts,” screamer

8th: “personalised decorations,” screamer

10th: “jewellery gift,” screamer

11th: “wedding,” up from #55

12th: “tshirt,” up from #154

13th: “custom,” up from #30

15th: “rings,” up from #24 (but “ring” ranked 16th)

16th: “personalized gift,” up from #335

17th: “necklace,” up from #25

18th: “planner,” up from #38

19th: “vintage,” up from #86

20th: “witch,” up from #99

Seeing “witch” make any Top 20 is rare. And to see it make one in December? This is a first.

Ranked 20th: “witch,” up from #99

And it’s still trending now. The first time “witch” made a Top 20 was in September. A news story had gone viral about commissioning Etsy witches to curse Charlie Kirk days before his assassination. But why “witch” began climbing again in November is harder to figure out. It ranked #99 then, with a click-through rate (CTR) of 121%. For December, it has 127%: these show it’s got significant purchase intent.

Top Etsy searches and purchase intent

Are any of you new to selling online? This will be a useful tip.

On ecommerce sites, click-through rates (CTRs) reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are an indicator of ‘purchase intent.’ These are people more likely searching with the intention to buy, as opposed to those just browsing.

You’ll want to keep up with Canada’s top Etsy keywords, yes. But for insight into what’s selling best on Etsy, look to their click-through rates. It’s why we end these trend reports with a Monthly CTR Roundup. It lists which of your top 250 keywords have had the highest CTRs most recently.

You had a bumper crop of high CTRs in November. You have even more for December! So we’re eager to get to them, but first there is another climber we need to mention.

Ranked 2nd: “wall art,” up from #106

Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “wall art.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.
Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “wall art.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.

The big story here is not that it’s trending (and continues to trend this week). It’s the fact it dropped so low for two months in a row this past October and November. Because “wall art” is literally a top search for you. Back in 2023, “wall art” ranked 5th overall for the year. Then in 2024, it rose to No. 1; for 2025, it’s your No. 2. So we’ve been shocked to see it drop like this.

Hopefully, it’s recovered. Year on Year, it’s up 28%. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one for you. Meanwhile, let’s see what your Top 250 shopper searches tell us about what’s selling best on Etsy Canada now.

Roundup! Canada’s top Etsy keywords with 125%+ CTRs now

On Etsy, a 100% click-through rate indicates buyers are highly engaged, clicking multiple listings in search result pages. That means CTRs of 125% are exceptionally high. For these Roundups, our calculations are drawn exclusively from your most recent full month of data. So, regardless of their 12-mo CTRs, most of these should be what’s selling best on Etsy in Canada now. Anything Christmas-related that’s of interest, add to a Keyword List. That way, you’ll be a step ahead on product research for 2026 holiday shoppers.

Ranked from #1-50

A year ago, you had three qualifiers in your December Top 20. This year’s has sixteen, beginning with No. 1 gift. Then at #3-7, a quintet: pokemonchristmaspersonalised giftstickerslast minute gifts. Skip one and there’s ten in a row! Posterjewellery giftweddingtshirtcustomearringsrings and personalized gift (with a “z”). The last two: #18 planner and #20 witch.

Every year, seeing anything personalized hit a December list of top Etsy searches makes us wince. Must be so stressful, getting custom or personalized orders so last-minute! That said, we’re excited about this next one.

#22 “personalised portrait” – December CTR: 149%

Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “personalised portrait.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.

This is a new search for you. And a monthly CTR of 149% tells us shoppers had plenty of purchase intent in December. Any of you here  looking for ideas of what to sell on Etsy, take note. This one’s worth adding to a Keyword List, see where it goes from here.

Returning to our Roundup, we need to back up. There’s a high flyer before this one; it’s #21 digital planner, also with 149% for the month. And all the rest in the Top 50 show strong purchase intent as well!

At #24-27 are phone casehatshoesdress. Skip one and there’s a trio: stocking, gifts for kidscrochet pattern. Then skip two for minimalist and mugs, followed by singletons #37 diy kit gift and #39 prints. Skip one and there’s another trio: rugringchristmas stocking. Then skip one again for yet another trio: artrecipe bookfunny gifts. Finally, at #50 is keycaps; it has 148% for the month.

Ranking #51-100

First here is qualifier #51 phainon, followed by a quartet of high flyers: gojohandmadeheated rivalrymug. Next is qualifier kpop demon hunter, followed by jewelry boxjournal and wallart (one word). Skip one and there’s sweatshirt, followed by a quartet, all with 149% CTRs! At #63-66, these are dnddigitalcatbook embosser. Skip one and there’s singleton scarf, then at #76 another: cross stitch.

At #79-82 is a quartet with 145%+ for the month: budgetfunny shirtgift for couplelingerie. Skip one and all the rest are high flyers too, beginning with the trio at #84-86: t shirtmoissanite ringtemplate. Skip one again for personalizednotebooknotion templatepress on nailspromise ring and homeware. “Homeware” made both the UK and US Roundups. Here’s yours.

#94 “homeware” – December CTR: 149%

Best practice with an abrupt single-month spike like this is to hold off before acting on it. Let a Keyword List watch it a while before you act on it. But given that sweet, sweet low competition stat? To those of you already in the Home niche, we’d say go for it! (Just don’t change the SEO of existing listings already selling well.)

The rest of these Top 100 high flyers: homedecor (one word), heartn8nnails, and milotic.

Next, ranked #101-150

Straight out of the gate, a trio: lighterglassesglass. Skip one and there’s bookmark; skip one again for another trio: 3d printed3d print, and bag. Then from #111-118, eight in a row with 143%+ for the month. Engravedemotesembroidery kitembossertwitchtwilightstonesmiling friends. Skip ahead one and you have a quartet: walletvalentinepencharms.

At #129 is singleton watch; it has 148%. Then there’s not another qualifier until the pair at #143-144: custom shirtcustom pet portrait. The final four here are christmas card templatestardew valleyvision board, and pinky ring. The latter gave us pause. We don’t recall its making a Roundup before. So, let’s have a look.

#149 “pinky ring” – December CTR: 149%

Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “pinky ring.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.

Interesting! Apparently, pinky rings have been making a comeback. They used to be a niche men’s item; now they’re gender-neutral mainstream fashion. And our data shows “pinky ring” continuing to trend well into January on Etsy Canada. Valentine gifts?

Ranked from #151-200

And another group off like a shot! All with 146%+ for the month: jewellerycustom blanketcustom pet. Skip one and there’s a pair: budget planner and pet memorial. Skip two and there’s another pair, gifts for men and wedding invitation.

At #162 is carabiner, followed by #164 cyberpunk 2077. Skip three and you have another run of high flyers in a row. The first seven: keychainkeychainsgift setgoldgold chaingearfriends. The rest: pinspocket knifeprom dressone piecepersonalized christmas ornaments and notebooks.

Next is qualifier #181 original paintings; it’s followed by three high flyers: nujabes t shirt blackpendant and penguin. Then you have qualifier #185 matcha before soaring back aloft with leather bag. And that kicks off another run of high flyers beginning at #188 with limbus companylight saberlego. The rest: handbaggundam wing pinnetflixmens wigteatablesvgtreize khushrenada pin and shirt.

Finally, ranking #201-250

The run of high flyers continues here with stampstarspidermansilver braceletwood frame and yumeship. As for that last one, is anyone feeling lucky?

#206 “yumeship” – December CTR: 149%

Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “yumeship.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.
Left, Etsy keyword stats for the search “yumeship.” The line chart shows its 15-mo search trend performance.

It’s a bit more than a single-month spike; “yumeship” had 550 searches back in July, and 50 in September. Then in December it soared to 2,550, along with a spectacularly-high CTR for the month. Checking it with an Etsy search now, the listings shown run a broad gamut of product types. From physical items like plushies and keychains to psychic readings of the customer’s comfort character. All listings appear to be custom.

Here for ideas of what to sell on Etsy in a niche you could make your own? So far, Canadian listing competition for “yumeship” is too low to count. So: do you feel lucky? You could jump right in. Or be prudent and add it to a Keyword List first. See where “yumeship” goes from here.

Resuming the Roundup, next up are #207-208 wood and wolfbox. Then skip one and you have 10, all high flyers. The first five: winewuthering wavesrunescaperesume templateroblox. The rest: rdr2twitch emotesveilwall mounted coat rack and valentines day png.

At #221-222 there’s a pair: ebook and dog sweater. Next, a septet of high flyers: digital productscyrenednd dicedeskcadeaufanfictionelden ring. Skip one and the run continues with the trio at #232-234: anniversaryanime posteraccessories. At #235 is qualifier animal, followed by a pair: chiikawa and chainmail.

Skip one and at #239-242, you have cheese boardcouchcnccustom gift. Skip one again and you have custom hoodiecustom pet mug and curse.

#246 “curse” – December CTR: 148%

Earlier, we looked at December climber “witch.” Here, at its 15-mo high, we have an item one might order from a witch. And it’s far from the first time we’ve seen spells make one of Canada’s top Etsy keywords lists.

Years ago, we used to do a daily review of all the keywords that populate Trend Buzz. We noticed then that Canada had way more searches related to spells, hexes and yes, curses. Some were quite specific! This is the first time we recall any making a Roundup though.

But let’s move on. This Roundup’s final three all have 148% CTRs for the month: ita baglake bachelorette and notion templates.

We hope some of these prove to be profitable leads for you! We’ll be back in a few days with Australia’s top Etsy searches, followed by our Q4 Etsy Quarterly Report.
