One of the most important parts of running a successful Etsy shop is utilizing keyword research to refine your SEO (search engine optimization) strategy. Knowing which keywords shoppers are searching for across the Etsy marketplace is key to growing visibility and sales. Finding the right balance between following current trends and staying true to your brand can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be.
Etsy has finally opened a window into its own search data, but it’s just one piece of the SEO puzzle. The platform’s newest Etsy keyword research and trend tool for its sellers, Marketplace Insights, gives sellers access to search data. This data shows you what’s trending, what keywords shoppers are using, and how competitive those search terms are.
Although having this data readily available on Etsy is convenient, pairing it with eRank provides even more context for your SEO strategy. These tools combined can help you better understand keyword demand beyond a 30-day snapshot. This way, you can optimize your listings for the long haul with actionable data.
How to Access Etsy’s Marketplace Insights Tool
Etsy is currently rolling the Marketplace Insights tool out to sellers. You can access it via your Etsy Shop Manager on any desktop browser. Click the “Stats” tab and then “Marketplace Insights” to open the tool.
Standard Etsy sellers get 15 keyword searches per week. Those with Etsy Plus subscriptions have unlimited access to search. Additionally, Etsy Plus subscribers can view the average monthly searches and competition level for any keyword, as well as a 30-day search trend graphs that shows how daily search volumes for the keyword have changed over the past month.
What Data Does Etsy’s Marketplace Insights Show?
This tool helps Etsy sellers discover trending Etsy searches on the platform. It provides insights into top-searched keywords on Etsy within the last 30 days. Choose one of Etsy’s categories to view trending keywords within those niches.

Clicking on one of these trending products loads the tool and shows the searches and search results for that keyword. These stats may look familiar. On eRank, these metrics are referred to as “Average Searches” and “Competition.” On Etsy, they’re labeled “Searches” and “Search Results.”

When you scroll down, this Etsy SEO tool displays similar keywords along with buyer demand (“Searches”) and the number of listings that show up in search results for those keywords. You can use relevant keywords from this list to gain more insight into what buyers may be searching for.
Having this data from Etsy is exciting, and pairing it with eRank provides even more context for your SEO strategy. Choose one of the keywords from Etsy’s suggested list and plug it into eRank’s Keyword Tool for a deeper dive into the data for that keyword. View estimated average monthly click-through rates, searches by country, a 15-month search trend graph, and more.

Scroll down within eRank’s Keyword Tool to see related keywords, along with not only each keyword’s average monthly searches and competition, but also a 15-month search trend graph for each keyword and their estimated average monthly click-through rates. Save any that interest you to an eRank Keyword List, or export them for future analysis.

How to Use Etsy’s Marketplace Insights with eRank
Marketplace Insights gives you a snapshot into buyer search data, while adding eRank to your SEO strategy gives you the full story. Using this Etsy Marketplace Insights research tool alongside eRank gives you more opportunities to optimize your Etsy listings and find even more long-tail keywords to drive traffic and sales to your shop.

If you have eRank’s Browser Extension installed, open it while using Etsy’s Marketplace Insights tool for more keyword insights. The extension provides additional information about the keyword you searched for, including its estimated average monthly click-through rate and a breakdown of its searches by country. You can also see the search trend for that keyword for the past 15 months, giving you an extended look at its seasonality and the overall popularity of that keyword.
Another metric you’ll see is “Keyword Difficulty.” This is an eRank score for each keyword that is based upon the competition level for that term in relation to its search volume. The lower the number, the less competition there is for this keyword versus search volume, indicating a possible opportunity in the marketplace. Spot potential opportunities for new products within your niche by identifying those keywords with higher shopper demand and lower marketplace supply.

Etsy’s Marketplace Insights vs eRank: Why the Numbers Differ
Up until now, Etsy has never released its own search data publicly. Since eRank is an independent tool, we rely on data from third-party data analytics companies to provide estimates for search volume and engagement for our Keyword Tool and Trend Buzz report.
