NOTE: In order to get you this report as soon as possible, search-volume figures in this report are based on eRank’s best early estimates. By mid-month, all keyword search counts and rankings get confirmed; some ranks may change a bit but not by much.

Criminy! Of your Top 20 Etsy keywords for March, there are only three that are not climbers. Pretty sure that’s an all-time record. And of your 17 climbers, six are screamers. (So-called for screaming to the top seemingly out of nowhere; a month back, these failed to crack the Top 1000.)

Hmm. Usually we focus on the climbers and screamers because they’ve climbed highest most recently. And the screamers not only climbed highest fastest; they did so from farthest down. But there’s no way we can cover all 17. We know you’re busy, and we want to leave time at the end for you Monthly CTR Roundup.

How about instead, we start with the three that managed to hold onto a Top 20 spot? And see how many months in a row they’ve done so. (We can’t believe there are only three. Geez Louise, that’s a ton of turnover.)

The top Etsy searches that held on at the summit

Ha ha, that makes them sound like staunch mountaineers. We see the resemblance, buffeted as they’ve been lately by all the turmoil. You lot are unique in needing to flip from Christmas to Valentine’s to Mother’s Day, all by March. Every year during this time, we expect to see turbulence in your Top 20. (Just not this much!)

Here are your three Top 20 lone survivors, in current rank order, their previous rank last.

#3 mothers day, up from #14

#5 wall art, up from #7

#19 poster, down from #18

Since our norm is to focus on climbers, we haven’t looked at “wall art” or “poster” in awhile. So let’s go ahead and look at all three.

3rd-ranked “mothers day,” up from #14

Wow, glad we did choose to check on this one. We expect to see it; it’s annual– but look! Even Year on Year, “mothers day” is WAY up!

To be precise, Year on Year “mothers day” is up 305%. Of course, Etsy’s been promoting it like mad all over its UK homepage, too. That helps a lot. Hope your sales reflect it!

5th-ranked “wall art,” up from #7

“Wall art” held fifth place back in January’s Top 20 too. It’s definitely among your staunch and true. Even in December, the peak of competition for those top spots, it held seventh. And because it’s such a regular, we don’t look at “wall art” much. High time we do.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy UK keyword stats for “wall art.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s also popular with UK shoppers this week (through April 7).

Look at that: the lowest “wall art” has dropped in 15 months was 17,800 searches last October. We checked. That 15-mo low was still enough to secure 10th place on October’s Top 20 Etsy keywords list. Which means that for at least fifteen months, wall art’s been a fixture on your Top 20. When we’ve analyzed the US top keywords for our annual reports, its constant star has been “earrings.” Yours might well be this one.

And the beauty of “wall art” is that it’s so capacious. Among categories with competition in the millions, in “wall art” there’s room to find a less competitive niche. For instance, just now we took a peek at wall art’s Related Searches table in Keyword Tool.

Close to the top was “islamic wall art.” Average Searches exceed 2,000; it’s got a stellar Average CTR (Click-Through Rate) of 125%. It ranks #341 for March! And yet only 15,146 UK listings are using it.

We looked no further, but we bet there are others with promise. If you’re here to discover what’s selling well on Etsy UK these days, wall art’s a winner. Just niche down. And speaking of wall art…

Third stalwart of your Top 20 Etsy keywords: 19th-ranked “poster”

Ranked 18th in February, “poster” is the only one of these that didn’t make January’s Top 20. Nevertheless, it’s been one of your Top 20 regulars.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy UK keyword stats for “poster.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s also popular with Etsy shoppers in the UK this week (through April 7).

For at least half of the past 15 months, “poster” has made your Top 20 list. And of these three stalwarts, it has the highest Average CTR: 103%. And remember, CTRs signal purchase intent.

Are you new to selling online? On ecommerce sites, click-through rates (CTRs) reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are an indicator of “purchase intent.” That is, a shopper more likely searching with the intention to purchase (as opposed to one who’s just browsing).

Knowing what the most popular search terms are now with Etsy’s UK shoppers is helpful. But for insight into which of these trending products are selling best, look to their click-through rates.

So next, let’s view your March climbers and screamers through the lens of their monthly CTRs. Because those high search counts can leave a lot out.

10th-place “selfcare gift,” a screamer

We data geeks here at eRank were just conferring about this one. We think this is the first time we’ve seen “selfcare gift” make a Top 20 since early in the Pandemic. (Which was the first time we’d seen it on any Top 20.)

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy UK keyword stats for “selfcare gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.

Looks like eRank developers have tweaked how the Search Trend graph displays. Formerly, if there was negligible search volume, we’d see a flat line running along the graph’s bottom. That could mean anything from zero to 50 searches/mo though. This way, we can see at a glance which it is: 14 months of zero searches. Then boom: “selfcare gift” got 20,500, taking 10th place in March.

Its Keyword Stats are a 12-mo average. However, someone unfamiliar with interpreting data could think “selfcare gift” got roughly 1,713 searches a month. And besides, see: its bars are green! But single-month spikes like this can be deceiving.

What’s most telling here:

a) the spike;

b) the dearth of searches leading up to it; and

c) that abysmal 24% Average CTR!

And when calculated just for March, at its very peak? Its monthly CTR is the same: 24%. Our advice: steer clear. Or at least add it to a Keyword List first, let that tool watch it for you awhile.

17th-place “stickers,” up from #40

Conversely, we have “stickers.” The opposite of a single-month spike, “stickers” has been a consistent Top 20 superstar for years and years.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy UK keyword stats for “stickers.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s also popular with Etsy shoppers in the UK this week (through April 7).

And yes, it is up Month on Month, and it’s also got the trending-now banner waving. (As “selfcare gift” conspicuously did not.) But when calculated for March, stickers’ monthly CTR is just 39%. Since Etsy’s got the most high CTRs of the top ecommerce sites, CTRs below 50% here are dismaying.

We’ll pin our hopes on that 100% Average CTR stat “stickers” has and hope for the best. After all, even though it ranked only 40th in February, it had a CTR for the month of 113%! From now on, we’ll be keeping an eye on this for you.

UPDATE: We’re circling back after doing your Monthly CTR Roundup (here at the end). There we discovered that #160 “sticker” (singular) has a March CTR of 149%! So we checked the rest of March’s Top 1000. Ranked at #292, “vinyl sticker” has 148% for the month and #300 “sticker sheet” has 149%. Then at #399 is “journal stickers” with 150%, and #410 “custom stickers” has 148%. Yay!

We’re here for you, sticker sellers! Because we know that at best, stickers aren’t an easy niche on Etsy. Let us know how we can help.

Top 20 Etsy keywords with March CTRs above 95%

This is getting long! So let’s just give a brief shoutout to the Top 20 keywords with the highest March CTRs. Now, for our Etsy Roundups, we use a threshold of 125%. But given this unprecedented (and confusing!) number of screamers and climbers, let’s make our minimum 95% for these. See if we can help you sort the wheat from the chaff – that is, see past the high search counts.

Now, 15 of these Top 20 have March CTRs above 85%. And 85% is fine. But having set the bar at 95%, it leaves just seven. These are the elite that show the most purchase intent.

#3 mothers day

#4 mothers day card

#8 personalised jewellery

#11 gift

#12 candles

#14 birthday

#19 poster

And the most amazing of them is this one. Behold, “birthday.”

The bar chart depicts Etsy UK keyword stats for “birthday.” Center, a line chart of its search history over the past 15 months. The pie chart shows the UK has 30.6% of the shoppers using this search term. The Trend Alert banner indicates this keyword has been popular with UK Etsy shoppers this week (through April 7).

We had to squeeze in that pie chart somehow. Because for such a broadly popular keyword, your 30.6% portion is quite the slice! The true star though is that Average CTR stat: 138%. And when calculated for March, its 15-mo high, “birthday” has a monthly CTR of 150%!

What a lovely way to wind up our discussion of your Top 20 Etsy keywords this month. And to finish, we’ll look at your Top 250 shopper searches. See what we can see about what else is selling well on Etsy in the UK.

Roundup! Top Etsy searches with 125%+ CTRs now

For these Monthly CTR Roundups, we analyze your Top 250 searches to find the highest monthly CTRs. As mentioned, of the big online marketplaces, Etsy has the most keywords with high CTRs. That said, even on Etsy, CTRs of 125% and above are rare.

We calculated these based exclusively on their search volume and clicks in March, our last full month of data. Therefore, regardless of what their 12-mo CTRs are, most of these keywords should still be popular with shoppers now. Any related to Mother’s Day you could add to a Keyword List to revisit for next year.

Just a word of caution before we begin. Some of these shopper searches could cause an Etsy seller problems. Whether they be prohibited by Etsy or protected by intellectual property rights, please look before you leap!

Ranked from #1-50

For the sake of readability, we’ll only shout out individual CTRs above 140% (which is wildly high). But all qualifiers will have at least 125%.

As it happens, the only qualifier in your Top 20 this month does have a wildly high CTR. It is of course #14 birthday with its 150% for March. And moving on to the rest of the Top 50, every other qualifier does too! At #25 is painting, another with a monthly CTR of 150%. Ranked #28, severance has 140%, and #47 pokemon has 149%.

Ranking #51-100

First off here is #54 japanese. (Has everyone noted that all things Japanese just keep on trending?) Next is #62 mirror with 149%, and then #67 gifts for mum. Skip just one and we have a trio of high-flyers! #69-71 crochet (150%), dnd dice (147%) and dog with 150%.

And a second trio! Ranked #83-85, these are warhammer (145%), bedding (149%) and ita bag. Then at #89 is embroidery with a 149% CTR for the month. And closing out the Top 100 are #95 wedding planner and #99 twitch emotes.

Ranking #101-150

Straight out of the gate here is #101 lighting with 150%. Skip two and at #104 there’s silver earrings with 149%, then skip one for #106 baby shower. Next up, we have two pairs in a row. There’s #108-109 daffodil and brooch with its 149%. The second pair is #111-112: sewing patterns (150%!) and t shirt.

Up next is #114 stitch with 142%, then at #117-118, twin high-flyers, both with 149%: lightsaber and labubu. Skip two places and we have another pair: #121-122 camera, and pin (149%). Next are #126 chocolate and #129 powerapps (149%). After that, we need to skip a bunch, but they lead up to a trio. At #140-142: dnd, cat (144%), and clocks (141%). And at #145 is will you be my bridesmaid with 149%.

And then, both ending this section and launching the next, from #148-157 is a group of ten! And all but two have March CTRs of 140%+. The first three of the ten are #148-150 monster hunter (140%), capybara (149%) and graduation gifts.

Next, ranked #151-200

The rest of that ten, ranking #151-157: necklaces (150%), kitchen prints, then home and stl; both have 149%. Birthday shirt has 143%, abaya has 145%, and attack on titan has 149%.

Next, at #160 is sticker with 149% (doing so much better monthly CTR-wise than poor “stickers”). Then from #162-168 is a septet, all with March CTRs exceeding 140%! So we’ll just list them: solo leveling, mystery box, moss agate ring, press on nails, heart, frieren, and fivem. However, from #169 on, that’s it for qualifiers in the Top 200.

And finally, ranking #201-250

That drought of high CTRs carries on through #212. But then from #213-216 is a quartet and all have 148% CTRs for March. These are mirrors, bridesmaid proposal, ceiling light, and dining table. Then we need skip but two places for a trio: #219-221 ramadan gifts, patches (149%), and vinyl sticker (148%).

Next, a pair, both with 149%: #223-224 first mother day gifts and flower. Skip one and we have another with 149%: it’s #226 knitting patterns. And skip one again for #228 bag with 150%.

Next up, another septet, all with 148%! From #235-241: honey, mingyu mug, mens bracelet, ireland, jjk, digital product, and dark souls. And then, an elevensome! Since it ranks from #243 through #253, it runs beyond our cutoff. But we can’t bear to break up the set, especially since most have March CTRs above 140%.

The first four all have 148%+ CTRs: dried flowers, dnd dice set, artisan keycap, arcane. The fifth, Ateez, has less (132%, which still is quite high!). Then birthstone necklace (149%), baby shower games, and bath bombs (148%). And the final three of our elevensome: animal crossing (141%), pencil case, and personalised phone case with 148%.

We hope some of these prove to be profitable leads for you!
