These were Amazon’s top keywords in December 2024. Re-read the following article over the summer to get your shop ready for holiday shopping in 2025! Let eRank take the guesswork out of your Etsy SEO and product research. We’ll show you what Amazon’s most popular products were at the peak of holiday shopping. Then we’ll analyze what these trending keywords tell us about what sells best on Amazon in December.

See what Amazon’s most popular products were yesterday, as well as what’s hot on dozens of other marketplaces like EtsyeBay, and Google Shopping.

  17. gaming chair

  20. iphone

Note: since Amazon’s third-party (3P) sellers can’t sell them, we’ve removed two entries from this list. They were “gift card,” originally ranked No. 1, and  “amazon gift card,” ranked third.

In December, Amazon announced that this past 12-day Black Friday / Cyber Monday was its most successful yet. Sales records were set, and a record number of items were sold. Hope you got in on it!

Now, back in November, Amazon had six climbers new Month on Month to its Top 20, including one screamer. (So-called because it screamed into November’s Top 20 seemingly out of nowhere. Just the month before, it didn’t even make the Top 1000.) Yet for December, with holiday shopping still frenzied? Amazon had just three December climbers, a low rate of Top 20 turnover.

There would have been two more if we’d included the gift card searches. However, we know Handmade and Marketplace sellers can’t sell Amazon gift cards. Nor, it appears, can they sell any other kind of gift card. Gift card searches only make Amazon’s Top 20 in December anyway. Instead, we chose to show you a Top 20 of Amazon’s most popular products you are allowed to list. (Given any requisite brand authorizations, of course.)

First we’ll look at December’s climbers, then see which three of November’s they dislodged. And we’ll close with an analysis of what December’s data indicates is selling best on Amazon.

Here they are, listed in current rank order.

No. 15 stocking stuffers, up from #42 in November

No. 16 white elephant gifts for adults (screamer: didn’t make November’s Top 1000)

No. 17 gaming chair, up from #26

Let’s see what we can see in Keyword Tool.

Ranking 15th: stocking stuffers, up from #42

“Stocking stuffers” is a niche that even Handmade sellers can get a piece of. And wow: it’s way up Year on Year!

On the left, a bar chart depicting US keyword stats for the search term “stocking stuffers” on Amazon. The line chart shows its trend performance with shoppers on Amazon over the past 15 months.
On the left, a bar chart depicting US keyword stats for the search term “stocking stuffers” on Amazon. The line chart shows its trend performance with shoppers on Amazon over the past 15 months.

By November, “stocking stuffers” was up 64% compared with the previous November. And in December, it was up 74%. From 500,000+ searches a year ago to 885,000+ this year: nice! We hardly ever see a keyword reach Amazon’s Top 20 in a niche handmakers can get in on.

And “stocking stuffers” is broad: anything small and giftable. In December’s Top 1000, there were three related searches. “Stocking stuffers for women” ranked #124; “stocking stuffers for men” at #168; and at #720 “stocking stuffers for kids.”

We’re just as pleased to see this next shopper search; it’s another product many of us could offer.

Ranking 16th: white elephant gifts for adults

First, anyone wondering what the heck are white elephant gifts? The term originally meant a gift the recipient has no use for. One they can’t even give away; they’re stuck with it, eventually go broke on its upkeep. In modern times, exchanging “white elephant” gifts has become for some a holiday tradition. Traditionally, such items would be inexpensive, useless, awkward in some amusing way.

“White elephant gifts for adults” is December’s Screamer of the Month, meaning it didn’t crack November’s Top 1000. But a year ago in November, as you can see, it was already closing on half a million searches. And a month later, it ranked 11th with over a million.

In that December, the related search, “white elephant gifts” was 24th; this December, that one ranked much lower: #556. Still, items in this niche are among Amazon’s most popular products every December. So while we were at it, we checked the related-searches table for “white elephant gifts for adults.”

We found “funny white elephant gifts for adults” had 12,560 searches in December. And notably, has an Average CTR of 114%. Compared with Etsy, CTRs this high are far more rare on Amazon. (No other online marketplace has as many high CTRs as Etsy.) Another: “white elephant gifts for adults under 10” got 6,530 searches with an Average CTR of 150%! “White elephant gifts for adults under 10” had 1160 searches and a 149% CTR.

Per an Amazon search we did, apparently white elephant gifts needn’t be useless nor even funny. Fun or quirky appears to be enough. Can you come up with something?

Ranking 17th: gaming chair, up from #26

We’re assuming not many of you are selling in this niche. We bet it would be a welcome gift, though.

Incidentally, India has 19% of the global shopper pie for this search. That’s the most for India we recall seeing. The US has 31%; UK 10%; Canada 4.5%; all the rest are slivers. In the US, “gaming chair” search volume is down a little Year on Year: 14%. So, if you’re in the market to buy, you might find a good deal on one.

And that’s it for this quick overview of December’s three climbers. Let’s take an even quicker look at the sliders.

Sliders: Left the Top 20 Amazon searches in December

Hot as they were in November, these cooled enough in December to leave the Top 20 Amazon Searches list.

Here they are in order by their November rank, with December’s at the end.

Formerly 17th: 9800x3d, now dropped to #115

Formerly 18th: christmas decorations, now dropped to #93

Formerly 19th: christmas tree, now dropped to #31

November’s No. 17: 9800x3d, now #115

This was November’s screamer, which was understandable: it was brand new and red-hot.

On the left, a bar chart depicting US keyword stats for the search term “9800x3d” on Amazon. The line chart shows its trend performance with shoppers on Amazon over the past 15 months.

As we explained in that report, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D launched November 7. Heralded as the world’s fastest gaming processor, due to pre-orders it near-instantly sold out. Then, rumors circulated it was back in stock on Amazon. Hence the spike above right.

To this day (in mid-January), it’s still out of stock at every US retailer.

November’s No. 18: christmas decorations, now dropped to #93

Of course more people shop for Christmas decorations in November. But as we mentioned in that report, this search was down 46% Year on Year.

For December, searches for “christmas decorations” aren’t down as much: 29%. Even down 29% though, there still were 419,020 searches. And it’s another keyword that Handmade, Custom and small Marketplace sellers can get in on.

November’s No. 19: christmas tree, now dropped to #31

While this one is down Month on Month from November, Year on Year it’s actually up a little.

On the left, a bar chart depicting US keyword stats for the search term “christmas tree” on Amazon. The line chart shows its trend performance with shoppers on Amazon over the past 15 months.

Just 2%, but it’s up. And two related searches made December’s Top 1000 that might be of interest. “Christmas tree skirt” ranks #961 and when calculated for December, it has a decent monthly CTR of 88%. “Christmas tree lights” ranks even higher in December with an even better monthly CTR. It’s at #859 with a Dec. CTR of 116%! For Amazon, a monthly CTR that high is a good indication of “purchase intent.”

New to online selling? On ecommerce sites, click-through rates reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs can be an indicator of purchase intent. That is, a shopper who’s more likely searching with the intention to purchase (as opposed to one just browsing).

And speaking of monthly CTRs, time for our Monthly CTR Roundup! We’ve calculated which top keywords had the highest monthly CTRs in December, our most recent full month of data. This gives us an idea of what products have been selling best on Amazon lately. Wondering what to sell on Amazon? Then this lightning round is for you!

Roundup! Amazon’s Top 250 keywords with 100%+ CTRs now

Of December’s top 250 keywords, all these have monthly CTRs of 100% or higher. As mentioned, Amazon CTRs this high are exceptional. Regardless of what their 12-mo average CTRs are, some of these should still be trending with shoppers now.

As for the seasonal ones, we suggest adding them to a Keyword List. Then check how they’re doing ahead of next holiday shopping season. On another Keyword List, add searches you think might have been for gifts. Revisit those for upcoming gift-buying occasions. See how they do for Valentines, then plan for Mother’s Day and Dad/Grads in June.

We know it’s especially hard to identify products you can do well selling on Amazon. But we see some here even Handmade and Custom sellers could get in on. And finally, our customary word to the wise: a good number of these are trademarked. Or otherwise off-limits, prohibited or tricky to sell on Amazon. But we hope you’ll find worthwhile leads that prove to be profitable for you.

Ranking 1-50

In the Top 20, there are none with December CTRs of 100% or higher. But at #21, there’s a runner-up! We’re sneaking it in because it’s among the rare ones Handmade and Custom sellers could offer. It’s mouse pad, with a December CTR of 96%.

From here on, we’ll only shout out individual CTRs that are 125% and higher. But all CTRs will be at least 100%. There are just two of those in the Top 50: #43 stanley cup; and #47 iphone 16 pro max case.

Ranking 51-100

There are only two qualifiers in this section, and they’re a pair. Ranked #76-77: crocs (with 127% CTR) and creatine. (All our Monthly CTR Roundups for December have been skimpy, too. Must be something peculiar about December.)

Ranking 101-150

The first here is #113 owala with a monthly CTR of 134%. Skip two and there’s another: #116 nike. Then at #122 is weighted blanket. And #128 magnesium glycinate is the last in this section.

Ranking 151-200

Here we begin with #159 bidet, then we have a wildly high CTR of 150% for #162 stanley. At #185 there’s govee. And this group ends with #197 shoe rack (a frequent flyer on these Amazon Roundups); and #199 christmas gifts.

Ranking 201-250

There are none here at all; this is a first! So, let’s bend the rules and do a bonus round.

Ranking 251-300

At #261 there’s yeti, and at #267 luggage. Then a pair at #269-270: desk lamp (139% CTR) and dog treats with 127%. And the last of the Top 300: #287 beats, and #289 vbucks with a CTR of 129%.
