Back-to-School searches dominate Amazon’s top searches every August. Most of these could be on such a list, especially if we include Off to College. Emblematic is the return to Amazon’s Top 20 of “backpack.”

Huh: it appears “backpack” got off to a slower (and lower) start this year. We’ll have to see how search volume is for September. Meanwhile, let’s take a quick look at what else is climbing now.
Amazon’s top searches climbing highest fastest
These four Top 20 keywords were not on last month’s Top 20. We’ve listed them in order by their current rank and ending with their previous rank. This way, you can see at a glance what climbed highest fastest.
Ranked 9th: “creatine,” up from #23 in July
10th: “backpack,” up from #22
18th: “protein powder,” up from #25
20th: “paper towels,” up from #27
As you see, none of this month’s climbers had far at all to go. And frankly, who cares. We doubt any small businesses on Amazon are selling supplements or mundane household consumables. But custom backpacks are a thing; we just checked.

And so are handmade backpacks!

Small businesses on Amazon – known as third-party (3P) sellers – need every advantage to compete they can get. One powerful way is to offer artisan-crafted items through Amazon Handmade. Another is by offering customization / personalization, via Handmade or Amazon Custom. And of course, by offering products with promising purchase intent.
Tip! Click-through rates and purchase intent
For any of you who are new to online selling, here’s a quick explainer.
On ecommerce sites, click-through rates (CTRs) reflect how many times shoppers clicked individual listings in their search results. Clicking through many listings on every page is behavior associated with the intention to buy. It indicates this customer has progressed beyond just browsing. Therefore, high CTRs are a strong signal of purchase intent.
You’ll want to keep an eye on Amazon’s top keywords, sure. You never know when some random product (most recently, NeeDoh) might go viral. But for insight into what’s selling best on Amazon now, you need to look at monthly click-through rates. It’s why we end all these trend reports with a Monthly CTR Roundup. You’ll see which of the current Top 200 keywords have the highest CTRs now.
Monthly CTR Roundup!
Here for ideas of what to sell on Amazon? Then this is for you! We’ve gone through Amazon’s current Top 200 shopper searches to find out which have current monthly CTRs of 85%+. That threshold is well above average for Amazon.
Keep in mind, these calculations are drawn exclusively from our most recent full month of data. Therefore, regardless of their 12-mo CTRs, these products are what’s selling best on Amazon now. And as ever, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for items Handmade and Custom sellers could do well selling.
Ranking #1-50
Note: For readability, we’ll only shout out a handful of individual CTRs. But all these qualifiers will have at least 85% for the month, exceptionally high for Amazon. Therefore, any product here is worth adding to a Keyword List for further research.
Same as last month, there are six qualifiers in this Top 20. They are desk, kindle, creatine, mouse pad, toilet paper, and protein powder. We featured “desk” last month, but it has definitely earned another look!
#5 “desk,” August CTR: 101%

“Desk” is up in rank from #7 to #5, yes. But that is not what got our attention. It is its current CTR: July’s was 76%; in just a month, that has now soared to 101%. Wildly high for Amazon! And “desk” is a product a Handmade seller could offer. We are delighted. So let’s see what else we can find.
At #24 is gaming chair, followed by a pair, #30-31 magnesium glycinate and notebook. “Notebook” is a product that you could sell Handmade or Custom; it’s got an 85% CTR for the month. Skip one and there’s another pair: water bottle and owala. We featured “water bottle” last month.
And we featured the next two, #40 standing desk and #48 shower curtain, in June. That month, “shower curtain” ranked #110 with a CTR of 93%. Now it’s in the Top 50 and its CTR is 103%. And by the way, we’ve noticed that customizing these has gotten really popular. And the last in the Top 50 is #50 air purifier; it has 103% for the month as well!
Ranked from #51-100
Here we open with #57 ps5 controller and #61 socks. We featured the latter in April; since socks can be handmade or customized, it’s a Roundup favorite. Next up: #65 pencil case and hangers. Since we featured “pencil case” last month, let’s have a look at “hangers.”
#66 “hangers,” August CTR: 93%

We’re fairly sure we haven’t ever featured “hangers” before. A month ago, they ranked #142 but missed qualifying for the Roundup with a CTR of 72%. So, “hangers” is well up now, both in rank and CTR. Probably for Off to College and dorm life; searches are at their highest since last September. Do any of you make or customize hangers? Might be worth adding to a Keyword List for summer 2027.
Next up is Roundup regular #68 mousepad; it has a CTR of 105%! But we featured it in May and we like to show you new ones, so let’s move on. There’s dresser at #71, followed by another Roundup regular, #80 shoe rack. We featured that one in May, too; for this month, it’s got 107%! And next, a pair: #82-83 ethernet cable and monitor arm.
Winding up the Top 100 is a trio: #90-92 rug, mattress, and bookshelf. Both “rug” and “bookshelf” are also Roundup regulars. We featured “rug” in April; for this month, it has a CTR of 107%. “Bookshelf” was featured in May, and for this month, it’s got a whopping 129% CTR, wow! Here to find out what’s selling best on Amazon now? We’re extra excited since they’re both products a Handmade or Custom seller could do well with on Amazon.
Next, from #101-150
Here we open with #108 sunscreen. Skip two and again there’s a trio: tv stand, couch, and desk lamp. The latter is one of Amazon’s top searches this week. Any of you making desk lamps? We featured “desk lamp” last month, and “lamp” back in May if you want to check those out.
At #115 is crocs, followed by #117 pc case, then #122 pillow. We featured “pillows” plural in June’s Roundup. Up next, a pair: portable charger and binder, followed by a trio: #129-131 umbrella, laundry basket, and desk chair.
Next is #133 walking pad; skip two and we have curtains and pillows. As just mentioned, “pillows” was one of June’s Roundup features. It ranked down at #184 then and had a CTR of 87%. Well, well, well: now it ranks about 50 spots higher, and it’s got a CTR of 138%! Heads up, those of you wondering what’s selling best on Amazon now: pillows are!
Next up, there’s a pair: #141-142 mirror and bidet. We don’t recall looking at “mirror” for Amazon before, so let’s.
#141 “mirror,” August CTR: 92%

Mirrors have been trending. Not just on Amazon; we’ve been watching mirror searches climb on Etsy for well over a year. And the press has picked up on it; there are all kinds of interior design articles about it now.
On Etsy, we’ve seen demand soaring for compact mirrors too. So it’s everything from floor-to-ceiling statement mirrors to ones that fit in the palm of your hand. That said, we bet most of these searches are for home decor mirrors. Yep; just checked. The only other mirror-related search in this Top 1000 is #738 full length mirror. And it has a CTR for the month of 91%.
Notably, the current trend in home decor mirrors favors the unique. Made with natural materials, in organic shapes – just the sort of thing Handmade artisans do best! Here for ideas of what to sell on Amazon? Shipping large mirrors isn’t for the faint of heart but still, looks like a niche worth researching.
Next up, at #152-153 there’s a pair: electric toothbrush and bed frame. Seems like bed frames of various types (most often queen) make every Roundup. “Bed frame” has an Average CTR of 85%; way above average for a 12-mo CTR. For the month, it currently has 93%.
Finally, ranked #151-200
At #155, we have trash bags, followed by Roundup regular high flyer #159 wallet. It’s another with a 12-mo CTR above 80%. Remember, that would be high for a monthly Amazon CTR. For an Average CTR, it’s spectacular. Seriously. And wallets are something Custom and Handmade sellers can do well with against Marketplace sellers. While sparing you the nightmare of shipping large fragile items like full-length mirrors: brrr!
That said, we’ve featured “wallet” several times, most recently in March, so we’ll move on. Next up are #166 electric scooter, #170 folders, #179 mechanical keyboard, and then #181 blackout curtains.
#181 “blackout curtains,” August CTR: 103%

So, as we just said above, “wallet” has a 12-mo CTR of 83%, and that is exceptional. But look at “blackout curtain.” Its average CTR is 102%! These must be selling like hot cakes!
Resuming the Roundup once more, at #185-188 we have a quartet: creatine monohydrate, shower head, sofa, and iphone 17 case. But just one more: Roundup regular #197 nightstand. And that’s a wrap for this month, friends. We really hope some of these will prove to be profitable leads for you.
