This is only our second year of having access to quarterly Top 1000 data. That means it’s the first year we can compare them Year on Year. (Here is last year’s Q1 report.) And between Q1 2024’s Top 20 and this one, we spot some crucial differences. We can’t wait to share them with you!

There are 10 keywords on 2025’s Top 20 that weren’t on last year’s – we call these “climbers.” And 10 on last year’s Top 20 list that are missing from this one. We find those as fascinating as 2025’s 10 climbers. Accordingly, we’ll take them in turn. And then we’ll end with a Q1 CTR Roundup to analyze what’s been selling best on Etsy these days. So stick with us!

Q1 2025’s Top 20 Etsy searches new Year on Year

These are the climbers in current rank order, their rank on 2024’s Q1 Top 20 listed last.

#2 “gift for him,” up from #56 in Q1 2024

#5 “valentines gift for her” (screamer: didn’t crack 2024’s Q1 Top 1000)

#8 “pokemon,” up from #35

#13 “tshirt,” up from #26

#14 “galentine gift” (screamer)

#15 “shirt,” up from #40

#17 “baby gift,” up from #379

#18 “gift for her,” up from #64

#19 “keychain,” up from #34

#20 “keycaps,” up from #22

All broad keywords; you’ll need to niche down from these. Still, top Etsy keywords are worth discussing because they signal shopper interest in their categories. Any that interest you, enter in Keyword Tool and scroll down to its Keyword Ideas table. You’ll find lots of niche, long-tail keywords there.

Quick tutorial: how to use Keyword Tool to “niche down”

For example, here is the Keyword Ideas table for “gift for him.”

For Keyword Match filter, we chose “Phrase” (circled in yellow). This will include shopper searches that have all three words. And for sort type, we clicked the “Search Trend” header (circled in orange). Doing so will show us which are trending now.

Surprisingly enough, just six keywords down from “gift for him” are four candidates worth further research. All have good search volume, excellent Average CTRs, and best of all: moderate to low competition! And now, let’s get to that broad keyword, Q1 climber “gift for him.”

2nd-ranked “gift for him,” up from #56 in Q1 last year

How happy we were in December to see “gift for him” and “gift for her” return to Etsy’s monthly Top 20! Since we began writing these back in 2018, both searches used to make most Etsy Top 20 lists. Then, a couple years back, they slipped away.

So while we’re at it, let’s look at “gift for her” as well; she’s also a Q1 climber, ranking 18th.

True, “gift for her” doesn’t have as much Q1 2025 search volume as “gift for him.” Where she takes the lead is in purchase intent. For Q1, her CTR is 93%; “gift for him” has 88%, second lowest of the Top 20. However, back in 2024 they both spent most of the year banished to the nether reaches of every Top 1000 list. Then “gift for her” began climbing for the holidays, followed quickly by “gift for him.”

But in January 2025, “gift for her” plunged again while “gift for him” continued climbing. Which explains why she’s in 18th place on Q1’s list while “gift for him” is No. 2. And speaking of “gift for her,” let’s move on to the first of Q1’s screamers.

5th-ranked “valentines gift for her” (screamer: didn’t crack 2024’s Q1 Top 1000)

In last year’s Q1 Top 20, “valentines gift for him” ranked 10th. But “valentines gift for her” was… where?

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “valentines gift for her.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.

Oh dear: barely there at all. Comparing February peaks, for 2025 she’s up 387% Year on Year!

Conversely (and likely related), in Q1 2024 the No. 2 search was “valentine gift.” And that one only ranks 16th this quarter.

There were 426% more searches for “valentine gift” in last year’s Q1. We bet a good number of them were shopping for Valentine’s gifts for her… And while we’re on the subject, let’s skip to our other screamer, “galentine gift.”

14th-ranked “galentine gift” (screamer)

We talked about this one in our February 2025 Etsy trend report; “galentine gift” ranked 4th! And the US was not the only country to have it in their February Top 20. We think “galentine gift” might well become an annual Top 20 regular. Just feast your eyes on these stats!

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “galentine gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.

Be sure to get “galentine gift” into your Etsy shop listings six+ weeks ahead of January. Because – for any of you on a small screen – it garnered nearly 74,000 searches in January alone. Combined with February’s 95,900 (and despite only 20 searches in March), that launched this newcomer into Q1’s Top 15. It easily outranked Top 20 regulars shirt, gift for her, keychain, and keycaps. “Galentine gift” even beat “valentine gift” –  while having less than a quarter of its competition!

17th-ranked “baby gift,” up from #379 in Q1 2024

In recent months, we’ve noticed Etsy promoting “baby gift” on its US homepage. It’s working!

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “baby gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s popular with Etsy shoppers this week (through Apr 22).

For Q1 2025, “baby gift” is up by 422%! Apart from Q1’s two screamers, “baby gift” climbed highest fastest this January-March. We hope your baby gift sales did too!

Speaking of Q1’s climbers, all the rest have been frequent flyers on our monthly Top 20 lists. So, since this is already getting long, let’s turn instead to which are missing.

Q1 2024’s top Etsy searches: the sliders

Having 10 climbers means 10 keywords on 2024’s list are missing from this year’s Q1 Top 20. As mentioned up top, this is only the second year we’ve had this quarterly data. So we don’t yet know the norm for quarterly turnover. But for monthly Etsy Top 20 lists, 10 new Month on Month is a typical rate of change.

We’re doing the YoY comparisons of their respective Q1 lists the same way as our monthly analyses. But next, instead of climbers and screamers, these will be the sliders and the missing. They made 2024’s Q1 Top 20 but aren’t on this year’s. And two failed to even crack Q1’s Top 1000.

These sliders are in order by former rank, their current Q1 ranks – if any – last. (Handmakers, brace yourselves; one’s a heartbreaker.)

6th in Q1 2024: “bracelet,” now #23 in Q1 2025

7th in Q1 2024: “decor,” now #43

11th in Q1 2024: “handmade gift” (missing; didn’t make 2025’s Q1 Top 1000 list)

14th in Q1 2024: “mugs,” now #56

15th in Q1 2024: “easter,” now #30

16th in Q1 2024: “personalized gift,” now #26

17th in Q1 2024: “furniture,” now #24

18th in Q1 2024: “mug,” now #57

19th in Q1 2024: “valentine home decor” (missing)

20th in Q1 2024: “valentine,” now #21

Now, as you can see, five missed the Top 20 but do rank in the Top 30. So we can skip them: bracelet; easter (so late this year!); personalized gift; furniture; and valentine.

7th in Q1 2024: “decor,” now #43

“Decor” is undeniably down. And not just compared with Q1 2024. It’s been down ever since.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “decor.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s popular with Etsy shoppers this week (through Apr 22).
On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “decor.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months. The Trend Alert banner tells us it’s popular with Etsy shoppers this week (through Apr 22).

On the bright side, it’s got the Trend Alert banner telling us “decor” is popular on Etsy now. But on the gloomy side, 2024’s Q1 Top 1000 had 12 searches with the word “decor.” And three of them made its Top 20: #7 decor; #12 home decor; #19 valentine home decor. The current Q1 Top 1000 list has just nine; only one (#11 home decor”) made its Top 20. Gloomier: last year’s Q1 #19 “valentine home decor” has gone missing entirely from this year’s Q1 Top 1000.

19th in Q1 2024: “valentine home decor;” missing from Q1 2025’s top Etsy searches

Here is “valentine home decor” now. Both years, this search got the most search volume in January. But a year ago, it ranked 11th in January.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “valentine home decor.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.
On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “valentine home decor.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.

This January, “valentine home decor” was down 99%. We do have one significant “but!” though. As we noted in our trend reports then, we know Etsy was promoting this keyword in Jan-Feb last year. And the year before, Q1 2023, it had even less search volume than it does this year!

As far as the broad keyword “decor” is concerned, we aren’t concerned. Besides, no mere mortal can rank for “decor” on Etsy anyway. Competition exceeds 24.5 million. And back on the bright side, “decor” has an Average CTR of 105%. That tells us there is plenty of purchase intent for the general category.

So, no worries about “decor.” Wish we could say the same about this next one.

11th in Q1 2024: “handmade gift;” missing from Q1 2025’s top Etsy searches

Once upon a time, “handmade gift” made the Top 20 often. But in Q1 this year, it failed to even crack the Top 1000. In fact, March 2025 was handmade gift’s 15-mo low.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “handmade gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.
On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats for “handmade gift.” The line chart shows its search trend performance over the past 15 months.

Contrast that with the first quarter last year. Four searches with the word “handmade” were in the Top 1000.

  • #11 handmade gift
  • #37 handmade jewelry
  • #120 handmade
  • #805 handmade furniture and decor

In Q1 this year, there are just two.

  • #133 handmade
  • #318 handmade jewelry

Those two and “handmade gift” used to be frequent flyers on the monthly Top 20 lists. Indeed, it wasn’t rare to have two, even three on the same Top 20. So it makes us sad to see this.

If it’s any consolation to you handmakers, this year’s two do have lovely CTRs for the quarter. “Handmade” has 117%; “handmade jewelry” 100%. Shoppers are buying!

Doing product research into what to sell on Etsy? Tip!

For anyone new to online selling, here’s a quick explainer on click-through rates and purchase intent.

On ecommerce sites, click-through rates reflect how many times shoppers clicked individual listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are an indication of purchase intent. That is, a shopper more likely searching with the intention to purchase (as opposed to one just browsing).

Yes, identifying the top Etsy searches is necessary. But that’s just the half of it. For insight into which are selling best, look to the click-through rates.

And now back to our short list of Q1 2025 sliders.

14th in Q1 2024: “mugs,” now #56

It’s also been common to see both “mugs” and “mug” make the same Etsy Top 20. But in 2025 so far, “mug” (singular) is doing about the same as “mugs.” Which is to say, not good: “mug” ranked 18th in Q1 2024; this year, it ranks #57. So, let’s look at the data with “mugs” and “mug” combined.

On the left, a bar chart depicting Etsy keyword stats with “mug” and “mugs” data merged. The line chart shows their combined search trend performance over the past 15 months. Q1 2024 and Q1 2025 are circled in purple. The Trend Alert banner tells us mug/mugs are popular with Etsy shoppers this week (through Apr 22).

Q1 2024 and Q1 2025 are circled in purple. The Trend Alert banner tells us mug/mugs are popular with Etsy shoppers this week (through Apr 22).

Comparing Q1 search volumes (circled in purple), mug/mugs is down 51%. Yet, as mentioned in our quickie tutorial just above, remember: search volume is only half the story. The other half is in that Average CTR stat: for the past 12 months, they have a CTR of 105%. Robust purchase intent!

The 10 top Etsy searches on both Q1 Top 20 lists

First we looked at the 10 top Etsy keywords on this year’s Q1 list that weren’t on last year’s. Then we reviewed the 10 on last year’s that didn’t make this year’s Q1 list. So now, how about we wind up our discussion of Q1 Top 20s on a high note?

Here are the ten top Etsy keywords that are on both lists. Year on Year, these Q1 Top 20 search terms have had the most lasting appeal. In order by their Q1 2025 rank: [::drum roll::] Ta-da!

#1 “wall art” ranked #1 last year

#3 “stickers” ranked #5 last year

#4 “earrings” ranked #8 last year

#6 “valentines gift for him” ranked #10 last year

#7 “necklace” ranked #9 last year

#9 “rings” ranked #13 last year

#10 “jewelry” ranked #3 last year

#11 “home decor” ranked #12 last year

#12 “gift” ranked #4 last year

#16 “valentine gift” ranked #2 last year

And with that, we’ve shown you Q1’s highest-ranked Etsy trending searches. Let’s finish by analyzing what they tell us about what’s been selling best on Etsy so far this year.

Q1 Roundup! Top Etsy keywords with high CTRs

Here, we’re looking for Etsy trending searches that show the likeliest purchase intent. We’ll take a quick spin through Q1 2025’s Top 250 keywords to identify which have quarterly CTRs of 125%+. If you’re here for ideas of what to sell on Etsy, then this lightning round is for you!

Now, of the top online marketplaces Etsy has the most shopper searches with high CTRs. That said, even on Etsy, CTRs this high are rare – particularly the quarterly CTRs. Note too, these calculations are drawn exclusively from Q1 2025 data. So, regardless of their 12-mo CTRs, these products showed the most purchase intent January through March. Which means that most should still be selling well now.

As for the shopper searches related to Valentine’s Day, add any of interest to a Keyword List. Then you’ll have them ready for updating your SEO ahead of next year’s. (And thereby get the jump on some of your competitors, we hope!)

One last thing: our customary word of caution. Some of these shopper searches could cause an Etsy seller problems. Whether they be protected by intellectual property rights or otherwise prohibited by Etsy, please look before you leap!

Ranked from #1-50

Note: For better readability, we’ll only shout out individual CTRs that are 140% and up. (Sky high, as you’ll see as we go along.) But all these qualifiers will have at least 125%.

There are two in Q1’s Top 20: #8 pokemon and #20 keycaps. In the rest of the Top 50, just three: #23 bracelet; #32 crochet; and #34 cat.

Ranking #51-100

Right at #51-52, our first pair: dice and hoodies. And “hoodies” is also our first high flyer; it’s got a 140% CTR for Q1. Then we skip a bunch for the next qualifiers, another pair: #69-70 sticker and severance

Right after come #72 vtuber model; #75 disney, and then there’s another pair: #81-82 dog and fursuit. After these, we have two high flyers in a row: #89 gold with 148%, and #93 flower has 150%! And Q1’s Top 100 winds up with #98 shoes and #100 twitch overlay.

Next, ranked #101-150

Starting this group on a high note is #108 slime; it has 150%, as high as our CTRs go. The next is noteworthy too: it’s #118 book with 140%. Skip ahead a few and there’s a pair at #124-125: dnd and bag; the latter has 148%.

Just a little jump to #131 mask and #135 blue which has 149%. (All one-word color searches that make our Monthly CTR Roundups seem to score especially high; not sure why.) And this group ends with runescape ranked #144 with a 144% CTR to match.

From #151-200

First here we have #154 green, another one-word color search, this one with 150%! The next also has a high Q1 CTR: it’s #157 pikmin with 142%. Then there’s #160 yarn; #169 dogs, followed by our first trio, high flyers all! Ranking #178-179: heart (141%), black (yet another color with 150%), and tarot, also with 150%.

Next up, a pair: #186-187 books and perfume. Then at #189 with 149% is pink – see what we mean?

Finally, from #201-250

Here we begin with #203 keycap and #207 keyboard. Next up, #220 mushroom with a Q1 CTR of 144%, and on to #223 for lighter. And then another high one: #231 moon has 143%. Just two more before we’re done: #243 chrome hearts (149%!) and #248 corset.

We hope some of these prove to be profitable leads for you!

As for us, we’ll be back in two weeks with our April Etsy trend report!
