Another month with lots of Top 20 turnover! Or has that just become your norm? In the past eight months, only once did you have fewer than 15 “climbers.” That’s our term for current Top 20 keywords not in your last Top 20.
This month’s 15 are actually on the low side of your new average. Two are what we fondly call “screamers” (for screaming to the top, seemingly out of nowhere). These are searches that didn’t even make your previous Top 1000. The good thing about this month’s two are their fantastic current click-through rates. Have a look.
Ranked 7th: “embroidery” – April CTR: 149%

A monthly CTR of 149% is stupendous; they only go as high as 150%. But wait! Your other screamer’s stats are way better.
Ranked 19th: “bookmarks” – April CTR: 149%

“Bookmarks” may not be trending in search this week but who cares: it’s a unicorn! And its singular form, climber “bookmark,” is both!
Ranked 15th: “bookmark” – April CTR: 149%

Are any of you new? “Unicorn” is our pet name for products so many naysayers claim do not exist. They grumble that Etsy is hopelessly over-saturated. They insist a high-ranked product with established search history and low competition that’s selling well is impossible to find.
Nevertheless, we do seem to keep finding them. Indeed, we found bumper crops for this month’s US trend report and the UK’s. (If you’re curious, just search them for “unicorn.”) And both “bookmarks” and “bookmark” are clearly among yours. We were actually surprised to see Etsy Competition so low for these. One or the other – or, like this month, both – have made your Top 20 from time to time.
Of the two, go with “bookmark.” More months with search volume; nearly double the Avg. Searches. While both appear to be selling like hotcakes now, bookmark’s 12-mo average 131% shows exceptional purchase intent. Here’s our customary explainer on that concept for anyone could use one.
Top Etsy searches and purchase intent
Especially for those of you who are new to selling online, this will be a useful tip.
On ecommerce sites, click-through rates (CTRs) reflect how many times shoppers clicked listings in their search results. Therefore, CTRs are an indicator of ‘purchase intent.’ These are people more likely searching with the intention to buy, as opposed to those just browsing.
You’ll want to keep up with your highest trending Etsy searches, of course. But for insight into what’s selling best on Etsy now, look to their click-through rates. It’s why we end our trend reports with a Monthly CTR Roundup. You’ll learn which of Australia’s top Etsy keywords have had the highest CTRs most recently. But first, here’s a quick look at all 15 climbers.
Top 20 searches climbing highest fastest
These are the search terms in this month’s Top 20 that weren’t in your last Top 20. We’ve listed them in order by their current rank, followed by their rank in March. This way, you can see at a glance what has climbed highest fastest, and which are new.
Ranked 2nd: “rug,” up from #27 in March
3rd: “mothers day,” up from #368
6th: “earrings,” up from #63
7th: “embroidery,” screamer (didn’t make March’s Top 1000)
8th: “sonic birthday invitation,” up from #52
9th: “pokemon,” up from #39
10th: “digital products,” up from #92
11th: “custom,” up from #83
13th: “mens clothing,” up from #618
14th: “gachiakuta,” up from #57
15th: “bookmark,” up from #241
16th: “dnd dice,” up from #581
18th: “habit tracker,” up from #492
19th: “bookmarks,” screamer
20th: “sewing patterns,” up from #36
Four of these are off-limits due to Intellectual Property (IP) rights, so we can skip those.
“Mothers day” is an annual climber. A year ago, your April Top 20 had four Mother’s Day-related searches to this year’s one. But we saw the same thing with your Valentine searches this year. It appears most Aussie shoppers just opted to click an Etsy homepage promo rather than type a search.
Last year, “mens clothing” began climbing in April and stayed high through June; early “Dads and Grads” shoppers? As for the rest, only one other climber covered a lot of ground to reach the top.
Ranked 18th: “habit tracker,” up from #492

Unicorn alert! Our one concern with this one is navigating tricky IP. You’d need to avoid anything that apps have patented, trademarked, and/or copyrighted. So, do your due diligence on that first. Otherwise, for those of you here for ideas of what to sell on Etsy, this one looks worth a look. And now, let’s go see if we can find some more unicorns, shall we?
Roundup! Australia’s top Etsy keywords with 135%+ CTRs now
Wondering what’s selling best on Etsy? Then this is for you! It’s your insider access to which of this month’s highest trending Etsy searches show the most purchase intent. Now, for these Roundups we draw our calculations exclusively from your most recent full month of data. Therefore, regardless of their 12-mo CTRs, most of these products should be what’s selling best on Etsy Down Under now. As for any related to Mother’s Day, add those to a Keyword List for next year.
Ranking #1-50
Note: For readability, we’ll only shout out individual CTRs that are sky high. Just keep in mind our 135% threshold indicates exceptional purchase intent. Which means any qualifying keywords you see here that interest you are worth researching.
Remarkably, you have six of these qualifiers in your Top 20 alone this month. They are rug, embroidery, sonic birthday invitation, bookmark, dnd dice, and bookmarks. Moving on to the rest of your Top 50, at #21 is lana del rey. Drop down to #31-38 and you have an octet of qualifiers! The first five are digital planner, custom pokemon card, crochet, chatgpt, and apron. And we have to stop right there.
#35 “apron” – April CTR: 148%

Because, yep, you’ve got another unicorn here. Five months of making your Top 1000; Average CTR: 131% (stellar!), and yet competition is barely over 3,500 listings. Plus, aprons have a low “barrier of entry” – trade jargon for a product that is simple and inexpensive to make. What more could one ask?
Resuming the Roundup, here’s the rest of that octet: pokmon [sic] birthday invitation, pendulum, and painting. The latter two have 148% CTRs for the month. Skip just one and there’s a trio: vivienne westwood necklace, half life, and fabric. Skip one again and there’s another CTR high flyer: #44 pearl beads, followed by #48 sweatshirt.
Ranked from #51-100
At #51 is miku, then #55 beaded necklace, #65 car accessories, #68 hunting, and #71 italian charms. Next, you have a pair, #83-84 polaroid guest book and coffee table.
#84 “coffee table” – April CTR: 146%

Another unicorn! And remarkably consistent search volume: in the past 14 months, “coffee table” hasn’t dropped below 1,200. Here’s a solid lead for you if you can either make these or source them vintage.
Up next on our Roundup, at #90-94 is a quintet of qualifiers. Art print set, crystal wolf, dnd, dnd dice set, and digital love letter canva template. Then skip two for a quartet: modular table saw, japanese wall art, jibbitz, and jibbitz for crocs.
Next, ranking #101-150
Straight out of the gate, a quintet! Kindle sleeve, kindle cover, industrial chic furniture, kyoko sakura, and ln106 hilux gift. Skip one and there’s a pair: #107-108 enhypen and fnaf cosplay. Skip one again and there’s midjourney prompts; skip the next and there’s madoka magica enamel pin.
Then from #114-123 are ten qualifiers, beginning with genshin impact. Let’s pause for a quick word about that.
#114 “genshin impact” – April CTR: 146%

“Genshin impact” is a regular high flyer on US and UK Roundups. But anime and anime characters are a global phenom; three are in your Top 20: Sonic, Pokemon, and Gachiakuta. The chief stumbling block with anime isn’t competition. It’s this: the anime most shoppers want is protected Intellectual Property (IP). And the chances an Etsy seller can get licensed to use any are nearly nil. We know of one exception, though: Genshin Impact.
As long as you adhere to its guidelines, rights-holder HoYoverse allows fans to create and sell fan-made merchandise. Featuring, say, diluc genshin impact. Diluc is a popular character; that search is in your Top 1000 now with a 139% current CTR. Here is the landing page on the HoYoverse website that will take you to the specific guidelines.
Resuming that set of 10, the next is #115 glitter earrings with 148% currently. Australia has over 80% of the global shopper pie for that keyword. And the next three of these all have 146%+! Pyrite chips, personalized book stamps, prom dress, pokemon card, prius, teacher stamps, spiderman mask, and splatoon.
Skip just one and there’s a quintet, all with 146%+: sticker, sign, skirt pattern, travel planner, travel. From #131-134: berserk, aquamarine necklace, adhd planner, and aroace. Then, two pairs: #136-137 christmas and emerald ring, followed by #141-142 iphone 14 case and life is strange. And the last three here: #144 gold bracelet, #148 preserved flowers in vase blue, and artisan keycaps. (We featured “keycaps” in your February Roundup.)
Finally, ranking #151-200
Here we open with #153 crystal key, followed by #155 newjeans, #159 vest pattern, and #164 pink macbook case. Then a pair: #172-173 crystal spider and custom redhood lego.
#172 “crystal spider” – April CTR: 146%

We featured “spider crystal carving” in your March Roundup. Now you have three high-flyer crystal carvings: #91 crystal wolf (146%), #153 crystal key (146%), #172 crystal spider (147%). For “crystal spider,” Australia has 70% of the global shopper pie. And for the other two, you have 99%!
So far though, all are single-mo spikes; a trend to watch? We’re none too sure. Last month’s “spider crystal carving” (for which you had 100% of global shoppers) has crashed back down to zero.
Moving on, at #175 you have boxing, followed by #177 business cards, both with 146%. Then at #179-181 a trio: jeff buckley, jort, kindle cases. Skip one and there’s a pair: f1 pen holder and fan, followed by #186 knife. And the last two for this month are #193-194 witch hat atelier and stargate.
And that’s a wrap, fam. Hope some of these prove to be profitable for you!
